I loved so many of the things about this wedding.? The low key and loving couple.? The very smart and feminist vows.? The incorporation of a scant few of the MANY books they own into the hilltop decor for their outdoor ceremony.? The nod to tradition that was a German wedding cup filled with amaro.
Larz Anderson Park Outdoor Wedding Ceremony
Lisa met Joe the ten years ago the day after Halloween, at the Silhouette in Allston. She was coming from a Day of the Dead-themed party and stopped off at the Sil for “one more.” Joe was enjoying a night out. He offered to share his free Sil popcorn with her. She accepted. ?They are still sharing popcorn at the Sil a decade later.
Joe thought Lisa was really cool and really different. No one ever started a conversation with him by talking about books and literature. ?He wondered just what she was doing in a dive bar. Lisa thought Joe were super handsome and had the best stories. He matched every story she told with one of his own that was even better – she loved talking to him; there were no lulls. ?She describes his as her partner, since week one, in every way.
Lisa and Joe shared their vows with each other , their friends and family in a beautiful outdoor wedding ceremony at Larz Anderson Park in Brookline. ?With the Boston skyline as their backdrop – this is one of my favorite places to perch at see the city from afar. And also a simply gorgeous place for a wedding. ?
The ceremony was written by the couple, complete with some brilliant feminist asides from the bride and her mother. It was a beautiful setting to watch the couple express their deep love and gratitude towards each other and their families. ?Lisa?s dad officiated. Her brother read Pablo Neruda’s “Your Laughter.” Joe?s niece acted as ring bearer. Over the course of the wedding day I realized that there were groups of friends from every phase in their lives present. ?That speaks to how much each of them care about the relationships in their lives.
A simple and rustic outdoor ceremony, that was lightly book-themed with lots of hardcover books from their home library incorporated into the decor, with white chairs and greenery/succulents throughout at the ceremony. ?
They incorporated a German Bridal Cup “joining” ceremony into their wedding, where they both drank from the same specially-made cup at the same time – without spilling a drop. ?This was especially impressive as it was not practiced beforehand. They also shared the tradition with their guests by passing out glasses to everyone, too, so they could enjoy a little nip along with them.
Bella Luna JP Wedding Reception
Bella Luna and the Milky Way in Jamaica Plain was the perfect wedding reception venue for this couple.? Who met over a bowl of popcorn a decade ago at a bar.? Do you remember where you were ten years ago? Whom you may have casually begun a conversation with? The moment when your life’s course changed direction?
Like many Ars Magna wedding clients, their wedding was about wanting all of our friends and family to have fun and celebrate with them. To share good food and drinks and music with all the folks that matter. And that is what they did.
This is the third wedding I?ve photographed at the Bella luna in JP. ?Each couple has been awesome in their own right. And each couple has had killer taste in music. ?These two are no exception. They are good a music. Good at friendship. Good at words. Good at jokes. ?Good at love.
